Mental Health Support FOR MEN

Therapy for men addresses a wide range of issues, including:

  • Relationship Challenges: Whether you are experiencing difficulties in your romantic relationship, friendships, or family dynamics, we can help you navigate and strengthen these connections.

  • Emotional Management: Learning to understand and manage emotions is essential for overall well-being. We will work with you to develop healthy emotional coping strategies.

  • Work-Life Balance: Finding harmony between personal and professional life is crucial. We can assist you in creating a more balanced and fulfilling lifestyle.

  • Stress and Anxiety: Many men face stress and anxiety due to societal expectations and personal pressures. Our counselling can provide tools and resources for men to manage stress effectively.

  • Self-Esteem and Confidence: Building self-esteem and self-confidence is essential for personal growth and success. We can support you in cultivating a positive self-image.

  • Grief and Loss: Men often cope with grief differently. We can guide you through the grieving process and offer support during challenging times.

  • Anger Management: Understanding and channeling anger constructively is essential in maintaining healthy relationships. We offer techniques to manage anger in a productive manner.

  • Addiction: Whether it’s substance use, gambling, pornography or other addictive behaviours, we offer a compassionate and non-judgemental approach to help you regain control of your life and achieve lasting recovery.

  • Depression: Feelings of hopelessness or a loss of motivation might indicate male depression. Men and women can experience depression differently but people generally feel sad, tired and don’t get pleasure from things they used to enjoy.

  • Identity: Men may have been raised to exhibit a certain “macho” exterior and may no longer identify with this focus on masculine traits or may wish to transition their identity in other ways.

  • Life transitions: Everyone experiences changes and with some, additional support can be helpful. Men may wish to seek therapy when becoming a new parent, ending or beginning an intimate partner relationship, job or career changes, or other life transition.

Individual Therapy for Men

We offer individual therapy for men sessions. This is an opportunity for a men’s therapist to focus on the issues that are impacting your life and provide you with the space to explore and assess what is going on in your life. Men often choose to go to therapy for different reasons and you don’t have to know why you are seeking counselling - perhaps something just doesn’t feel right and that can be enough to get started.

We also provide couples and relationship counselling if therapy is something you wish to do with your partner(s).

Why It CAN BE DIFFICULT FOR Men to Seek Counselling

Asking for help can be hard. Society can place expectations on men to behave in a certain way and there is still often a stigma attached to counselling for men. Men also tend to deal with mental health issues externally (women tend to internalize more) and this can lead to behaviours that mask the underlying issues. Substance abuse, workaholism, or a high number of romantic partners can also be expressions of other mental health issues.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Men’s counselling is an opportunity for men to discuss issues that may impact men in different ways than other genders. It is a safe space for talk therapy to discuss issues in your life to help you live the life you want to lead.

  • Anyone looking for a therapist should find someone they feel comfortable talking to about their issues. If you are seeking a men’s issues therapist specifically, find a therapist through referrals from friends or family, or through your own research by reading websites. Our therapists offer a free 15-minute consultation to see if you find each other a good fit to work together. Contact us! We’re happy to speak to you about what is bringing you to counselling.

  • Everyone deserves to live a happy and fulfilling life. Canadian men are more likely to experience substance abuse and addiction, feel lonely, or die by suicide than women. Finding a clinical counsellor can be a brave step men take. It is important to find a therapist familiar with men’s mental health challenges and that you can relate to and where you feel accepted.
