Ariel Dumais is a Registered Clinical Counsellor in British Columbia with Solid Ground Wellness and is approved to provide counselling sessions to individuals with an ICBC claim number. In-person counselling is available in Chilliwack, BC and virtual therapy services are available throughout BC.

A car accident can have a significant impact on someone’s mental health. They may have experienced various emotional and psychological effects, such as:

  1. Trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress. The traumatic event can lead to flashbacks, nightmares, and heightened anxiety, affecting their daily life.

  2. Anxiety and fear: Individuals might develop a fear of driving or being on the road, leading to avoidance behaviour or decreased mobility.

  3. Depression: Feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and loss can arise due to physical injuries, property damage, or the emotional toll of the accident.

  4. Guilt and Self-Blame: Survivors may blame themselves for the accident or feel guilty if others were injured, which can lead to emotional distress.

  5. Sleep Disturbances: Insomnia or difficulty sleeping can result from the stress and anxiety caused by the accident.

  6. Impact on Relationships: Car accidents can strain relationships with family, friends, or partners, and the individual might be irritable, distant or have difficulty communicating about their emotions.

  7. Concentration and Memory Issues: Mental fog, difficulty focusing, and memory problems may arise as a result of the emotional trauma.

  8. Physical Symptoms: Mental stress can manifest in physical symptoms like headaches, stomachaches, or muscle tension.

How Does Accident Counselling Help?

It’s important for those affected to seek support and consider counselling to address these mental health challenges and facilitate their recovery process. After a motor vehicle accident, coping with accident trauma is crucial for both physical and emotional well-being. A therapist is trained to understand the multifaceted impact these incidents can have on your life. From physical injuries to emotional distress, we provide comprehensive guidance to help you on the path to recovery.

We prioritize your health and mental well-being, ensuring you receive the care and support necessary to regain control of your life.

Talk therapy with a clinical counsellor can help you as you deal with the post-recovery process and the additional stress that often comes following an accident.  Speaking with someone about your car accident experience is often the first step in accident trauma recovery, and allows you to move towards healing and reclaiming your quality of life after a motor vehicle accident.

How Do I Get Started with ICBC Therapy After an Accident?

It’s very easy to get started. As of April 1, 2019, individuals no longer require pre-approval. If you have an ICBC claim number, just book an appointment with an approved Registered Clinical Counsellor. An ICBC counselling treatment plan will be created for your case. No doctor’s referral is required.

ICBC covers the cost for 12 sessions of counselling. If you require additional therapy after 12 weeks, we will work with ICBC about providing additional free therapy sessions.
